Our name "BlueGreen" comes from the acupuncture point on the Heart Meridian called Bluegreen Spirit. The color is present in healthy waters near coral reefs or in a clear blue sky against a green landscape. We feel that wherever the color bluegreen shows, life is healthy, vibrant and expansive. We want this level of health and vitality for our clients.
"Look out as far as you can, to the biggest circle of horizon from where you are this moment, see the vast blue of the sky with all its clouds and weather, see the wondrous green of the great good earth, know that you too are this glorious bluegreen color, beautiful, vast, and infinitely possible!"

The practice of massage has been around for centuries. Its main goal is to promote and restore health. When combined with a balanced diet, exercise, sleep and other aspects of living, massage ensures that the body can function at its highest level. Regular massage supports our body's detoxification system by helping to move lymphatic fluids and clear out unwanted buildup of toxins. Scientific studies show there are numerous emotional and psychological benefits to being touched. People tend to think of a massage as a luxury, but the benefits of massage are countless, from improving energy levels to relieving aches and pain. Massage on a regular basis addresses symptoms and therefore is a preventative therapy for certain conditions. Massage therapy also supports the wellbeing of pregnant women and athletes.
Benefits of Massage:
-Enhances our Immune System
-Releases endorphins, the body's natural painkiler
-Improves overall health of cells, tissues and vital organs
-Increases blood and lymph circulation
-Lowers blood pressure
-Relieves tension headaches
-Increases flexilibity and range of motion
-Reduces muscles spasms and cramping
-Relieves aches and pain
-Relieves mental and physical fatigue
-Improves energy level
-Promotes feelings of well-being
-Treats conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, digestive disorders and more
-For athletes: helps to prepare and recover from workouts
-For pregnancy: helps to relax and release emotional stress and addresses the strain felt on lower
back, neck, legs and feet. It also helps to reduce edema in upper and lower extremeties

Why Acupuncture?
After working in Business and Finance for almost 8 years, I decided I wanted my work to be in a field where I could give back. I began to research many avenues including Social Work, Nursing, Psychology and other paths. During that time a friend told me about an Acupuncture school in Maryland. I attended several workshops and immediately began receiving acupuncture treatments in order to see if attending school for Acupuncture might be a possibility. I soon realized that becoming an acupuncturist meant many things. Not only would I be able to offer a clinical skill to support the healing process, I would also be able to build strong relationships with my clients through one on one interaction. Acupuncture allows me to support people in need from all walks of life and on many levels.
The skills I've learned as an Acupuncturist and through my life experiences have allowed me to 1) treat my client's individual needs in my private practice 2) treat people in addictions recovery in community clinics and 3) affect children in public schools by teaching conflict resolution skills and breathing techniques to reduce stress & anxiety. I can take Acupuncture anywhere and it generates an extremely low amount of waste thus making a small imprint on the planet. This is an important part of why I love this work.
What is your personal experience with receiving Acupuncture?
When I first began receiving Acupuncture treatments, my sole reason was pure curiosity . I was a bit of a non-believer, i.e., "prove it to me if it works!" I wanted to personally experience how it worked and what it was like in order for me to decide if this was a path that I may pursue as a career. At the time, I was perfectly healthy and had no immediate complaints. After receiving treatments over a course of 6 months I began to notice many changes and some that I wasn't necessarily looking to find. I had a history of strep throat for over 10 years. I use to contract strep a minimum of two times a year and sometimes more. I visited many doctors and continually had regimens of cough suppressants and antibiotics to address the illness which at one point had worsened to contracting pneumonia. However, since the very first time I began receiving acupuncture treatments, I have never again had another incident of strep or lung illness. I will often go years without even a cold or a flu while others around me are sick. In addition, I have been much more relaxed and less tense all around. I have less nervousness around public speaking and can speak freely with less anxiety. Also, my relationships with my family have become more peaceful as I am calmer and don't react abruptly to emotional situations. While I use to suffer from regular headaches and migraines, I now am happy to say that they are rare. I have experienced improved symptoms around menstruation. I have more clarity of thought and speech. My concerns about life feel grounded and I approach my problems with clarity, direction and ease. In general, Acupuncture supports me in many ways including achieving my short and long term goals, adds a sense of peace of mind and heart during painful times, I feel grounded and able to move through changes both physical and emotional with more ease. These are only a few ways in which acupuncture has affected me.
What is your philosophy about Acupuncture?
There is no question that I recommend Acupuncture to my nearest and dearest including my mom, my family, my friends and even my dog! However, I do believe that there are many ways to experience healing and balance. Acupuncture is only one way and it is what I have to offer. I can only hope that my clients will be open to and discover the miraculous benefits of Acupuncture.
As I mature and my life goals expand, I am blessed to be practicing work that is ever evolving within the realms of health and wellness in the United States and globally. I believe that Acupuncture is a direct compliment to Western Medicine and is a key part of the solution toward building a more economical & sustainable healthcare system. Acupuncture can help address the critical issues and concerns we face today. It is the oldest form of healing that continues to be practiced and has been proven to be effective to treat many symptoms and health concerns. More importantly while I am addressing these specific concerns in the treatment room, I am also empowering my clients to take responsibility for their health. My goal is to return balance to a healthcare system that often only treats symptoms rather than addressing the causes of the symptoms or disease.
Acupuncture is among the oldest forms of medicine in the world. It dates back 5000 years and has been proven to successfully treat a wide range of symptoms and disease. Acupuncture is based on the belief that all living beings have a vital energy called Qi (pronounced chee) that circulates throughout the body in meridians or pathways. Balanced and free-flowing Qi creates health, whereas blocked or stagnated Qi causes illness and disease. Needles that are hair-thin, sterile and disposable along with a warming herb called Moxa, are used on specific points along the meridians to stimulate movement through the body. The treatments either build energy where depleted or clear blocked energy, thus allowing Qi to flow smoothly & freely. As a result the body's natural ability to heal and regulate its systems to optimal functioning occurs.

Acupuncture can be used to treat and prevent a wide range of conditions, symptoms and illnesses. The World Health Organization (WHO) and the National Institute of Health (NIH) recognize its effectiveness in the treatment of more than 50 conditions, including pain, stress, and certain digestive, respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, muscular, urinary, menstrual and reproductive disorders. Click here for The World Health Organizations complete listing.
While acupuncture in the United States is frequently associated with pain control, it has much broader applications. Acupuncture can be effective as the only treatment or in conjunction with other modalities including conventional medical therapies.
At BlueGreen Acupuncture & Bodywork, treatments are uniquely designed for each individual. The goal is to treat the symptom(s) while always considering the person as a whole. Acupuncture treatments can support and cultivate body awareness, empowering healing on many levels.

*Acupuncture can address many symptoms that don't necessarily fall into a category. Some symptoms are vague and may be difficult to diagnose with Western medicine. *Acupuncture can support people who are experiencing a sense of hopelessness and despair.

How does acupuncture work?
Based on the ancient Chinese medical philosophy, our body has a network of channels or meridians in which Chi, a vital life giving energy, flows; supporting functions of the body, mind and spirit. When Chi is not moving properly throughout these channels, imbalances can occur and symptoms start to arise. In order to explore the underlying cause of the symptoms or condition, they are viewed in relationship to the totality of a person. In other words, we dont treat Ana's headache, we treat Ana, who has a headache. The gentle insertion of hair thin needles at specific points along the channels will stimulate the bodys natural functions to heal and to regulate affecting the deepest level of the body, mind and spirit.
Why would I see an acupuncturist?
Many patients begin acupuncture treatment to find relief from pain and a wide range of physical, mental or emotional conditions. Others who are not experiencing any specific ailments also seek treatment to maximize their wellness, maintain balance, and stimulate the tremendous healing power of the body, mind and spirit. You can also use your acupuncturist as a supporting partner in health and living!
Do I have to believe in acupuncture in order for it to work?
Not necessarily. Acupuncture works whether you believe in it or not, proven in the instances of children and animals who are successfully treated with acupuncture. While they might not understand the process, positive responces have been witnessed and tremendous benefits have been proven.
Is acupuncture covered by insurance?
More and more insurance companies are doing a better job with refunding fully or partially for acupuncture treatments. They are realizing that if their clients get treated regularly, its less likely that they will have to spend thousands of dollars with doctors, surgeries and medications. Consult your insurance carrier for the term of coverage in your policy. Full payment is required at the time of treatment; patient statements are available at your request if you wish to submit directly to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Is acupuncture affordable?
If one considers the cost of medications & treatment for conditions that are successfully treated by acupuncture such as low back pain, indigestion, asthma and many others, acupuncture becomes one of the most affordable healthcare modalities in the US. Acupuncture can address many conditions that may help to limit the amount of money spent on over-the-counter drugs, prescription drugs, co-pays, x-rays and doctor visits.
Does acupuncture hurt?
The sensations people experience during acupuncture vary from nothing at all to a brief ache in the area being needled, to a tingling sensation in other areas of the body. The needles are hair thin and most patients usually don't experience any pain. Almost immediately after the needles are inserted, all sensations tend to subside and patients report feeling a sense of peace and overall relaxation.
I'm afraid of Needles, now what?
If you are afraid of needles, there are other ways to access points and channels including moxibustion (an herb heated on an acupuncture point to stimulate that point), acupressure or gentle massage type stimulation of certain points to name a few. Please feel free to contact a practitioner with your concerns. Please let your practitioner know if you have a fear of needles. We will be extremely flexible with your treatments so that you experience a sense of well-being, safety and comfort receiving the full benefit of treatment without the use of needle insertion.
Are the needles safe?
Yes. The needles are sterile disposable and approved by the U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA). They are used once and then disposed immediately as biohazard waste material. Strict adherence to Clean Needle Technique is observed.
Do I have to be ill to come for acupuncture?
Absolutely not. Many people are coming for treatment after realizing that it is easier, safer and more cost-effective to maintain health than to recover it. Our everyday life can be a little stressful sometimes, so patients come back monthly or quarterly to relax, get tuned-up, boost immunity to allergens or other pathogens or to make time to take care of their overall health and themselves.
How frequently do I have to come for treatment?
The frequency of treatments varies with each person based on condition and progress. Following the initial visit, we usually ask our patients to come back weekly for 6 to 8 weeks. The treatments are cumulative in nature and each treatment builds on the last. Based on the individual, results may be experienced anywhere from immediately to the span of several visits. As the patient experiences an improvement with his or her initial concerns, the space between treatments may be extended accordingly to bi-weekly, monthly or longer. Seasonal treatments are recommended for patients who dont have specific complaints. Seasonal treatments help to smooth transitions and symptoms that may arise during the changing of seasons between Spring, Summer, Fall & Winter. Please ask a practitioner for more information.
I am considering getting treatments and I have additional questions and concerns. What do I do?
Feel free to call or email any of the practitioners listed in the website. To learn how to serve each patient with his or her particular concern, we offer a 30-minute free consultation over the phone or in our beautiful space located in Ruxton Station. Please see the Contact Us page of the website for more information.
I was born and raised in Florianopolis, Brazil where homeopathy and acupuncture where instilled in us from the time we were born. Growing up, my sibling and I rarely ever had antibiotics or other western medicines that taught me the importance of deeply listening to my body. As I grew older, my passion for healing continued so I went to college and studied Naturologia" where I learned how to treat patients using massage, reflexology, hydrotherapy, Bach flowers and many other powerful natural therapies. After graduation in 2004, I moved to America and continued to study healing paths by getting my massage license in Florida and then my Masters Degree in acupuncture from The Tai Sophia Institute in Maryland.
The real turning point in my career came during my three and a half years studying at Tai Sophia with Diane Connelly, Bob Duggan and the amazing community that they created. The first six months of the program were spent helping us learn more about ourselves, about who we are and about how we can become true servants of the world. I learned that acupuncture is not a means to fixing someones problems but rather an opportunity to look deep inside and understand what our symptoms are really teaching us. We learned how to treat both with needles and with the power of listening and questioning.
After a decade of studying natural ways of treating the human body, mind and spirit I am deeply committed as a practitioner to serving all of my patients. One of my favorite things about my job is the amount that I learn in partnership with everyone who walks through my door and I promise each of them my presence, my listening and my thoughtfulness.

Zero Balancing (ZB) is a form of Bodywork developed by Fritz Smith, a Five Element Acupuncturist and Osteopathic D.O. & M.D.. It is based on the premise that we hold our deepest layer of energy at the deepest tissue in the body, the bones. This hands-on technique seeks to create a balancing point at the interface of energy and structure at the core level. It can create a true link for the relationship between the physical structure and the energy body of a person. Gentle skeletal adjustments serve to facilitate the clearing of blocks, twists and accumulations that cause pain, exhaustion, disease and imbalance to occur. ZB is a great compliment to acupuncture as it can help to integrate and amplify acupuncture treatments. It also stands on its own as a unique bodywork therapy. A session lasts from 30 to 45 minutes. A ZB session takes place on a treatment table with the person fully clothed.
